Piano, Keyboard and Music Technology Lessons
Based in Middleton, Manchester
Hi, I’m Carl and I am a professional music teacher (both school and private) and musician. Additionally, I have worked extensively as a freelance composer composing music for a diverse range of clients including the BBC.
I am married to the lovely Isabel and have three grown-up children.
I obtained qualified teacher status in 1991 and have worked in mainstream secondary education for 23 years, for the most part as a Head of Music. I was a Standards Verifier (external moderator) for Edexcel’s level 2 and 3 BTEC Music and Music Technology courses from 2009 until 2014. Additionally I have taught keyboards, piano and music production and technology privately to both children and adults over the years.
I have experience of teaching students of all ages and can adapt my teaching style accordingly. The youngest student I have taught was a 4 year old and the oldest 72!
Approach to Music Tuition
As a very experienced teacher, my lessons are very much geared to the individual. With younger students, the focus is always on purposeful fun with music games and singing used to reinforce piano skills. With older students, it is about building a personalised programme of learning which will both challenge and entertain. I prepare students for exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music if they so wish.
Please note that most of my lessons are half-hour sessions for which I charge £15. These can be extended to 45 minute sessions to encompass more theory for just £20.
